My Internship

I completed my internship working with the Director of Technology from Northampton Area School District, Kurt Paccio. Kurt oversaw my work in three main areas:
  • Digital Signage: Earlier this year screens were installed at strategic locations in the High School that are connected to a central server. These screens are used all day to provide information to students in a continuous loop. There are various options to display information on the screens, and they can be programmed to show specific information at different times of the day and locations. The screen by the Athletic Department is currently used to display the same information as everywhere else, but the Athletic Director, Shaun Murray, would like to use them to display athletic information for the upcoming winter sports. I created a series of Google presentations for shaun to use this year, and update for future seasons.
  • Advanced Schoology Resources: The district is currently in the first year of full 1:1 for all students in grades 6-12, and the second year of full Schoology integration in every classroom. Over that period many strides have been taken by our faculty in improving their use of Schoology, and technology in general, in the classroom. Even with all of the improvements that have been made integrating Schoology, there are still many useful features that are underused or misunderstood. Schoology does have an extensive help section, but it is surprisingly hard to find an answer to anything other than a basic issue. I created a series of guides on Google Docs that cover a large number of useful features.
  • District Website Migration: Northampton Area School District's web site is changing. Working with the Blackboard company the district is migrating all of its content from the current site to a new site curated by Blackboard. This process involved many hours of training to use the new site, and configuring templates to produce the look and functionality necessary for the new site. I spent time with Kurt to learn everything necessary to produce the web site the district needed, and run everything on the back end.
